Shadilver - Jumpstart Chapter 6

 Shard placed a mock hurt expression on his face (while grinning madly though)

"awww... No homo? Sometimes you got to go ALL THE HOMO!!" he said as he tried to hug me. But I know Shard well, he's just making me feel better

"Oh Shard, If you continue your display of affection, your girlfriend might get jealous" I said as I gathered my things and the three of us headed to our class, which was Speech.

"You know what Shard?" I began as we settled down to our seats
    "what?"

"how'd you get someone like Nicole, who is from the I.T department, who is obviously waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of your league, to date you?"

Shard is definitely going to deny it, but there was an obvious blush on his face!

"I just have lady skills s'all" he said as he smiled like an idiot. Despite being quite jerky most of the times, Shard is actually such a really nice guy. I scoffed as a reply.

Then my mind kinda went blank for some odd reason

"Huh? Come again?" I didn't hear what Shard said, I think he told something important and I wasn't paying attention, cause he looked irritated

"Dude, you've been doing that so often now; spacing out.. what's with that?"
    "I... am not so sure actually."

I could tell he wasn't satisfied with my answer but I am really happy he didn't ask anymore.. Also our English prof entered the room

"Good Morning students! Now please kindly take your seats and answer page 135, then after that, you will read your answers out loud, did I make myself clear?"
    "Yes Miss" the entire class said in unison

*sigh* I guess it'll just be a typical, Monday morning... as always...

eh, whattaya know? I was right; just a normal monday. Not that the other days were anything special

Man, I hate to admit this, but I'd rather live in my dystopian future and fight Iblis all over again than go through this! I enrolled in Physical Therapy to learn all the cool rehab shit, Not this!! What does any of my current subjects have anything to do with my course anyway???

"Yo Ace! Shampoo okay? Don't forget" Shard reminded me for the umpteenth time this hour
    "If you want shampoo so badly why don't you just bring you own??"
    "I just feel lazy to bring one"

Chaos dammit Shard! I have to buy my own shampoo with the money I earn from my job! At least you have your uncle to buy you things!!

He is seriously pissing me off right now! Do you guys know what it feels like to earn for yourself and then budget them? I am telling you; it ain't easy! But I didn't say anything else as we headed to the covered pool.

Anybody here who knows the struggles of earning for yourself; Would you put your hands up and say amen??

Let me tell you a secret; I seriously don't know how to swim. And my case is very different from Sonic's alright? Let me clear you on that. He has hydrophobia; meaning he is afraid of water, I am not.


I mean, c'mon, how would you ever learn how to swim when everywhere is pretty much lava? I sure as hell won't try to even be near that stuff, let alone swim in it. But my friends are helping me though, especially Alice, a golden-furred fox with blue eyes.. she's just nice like that..

Today we are learning how to swim free-style. isn't that when people swim and their face is under water??? SHIT son that's gonna be difficult!

*sigh* oh well, no choice.. I practiced my best but I just can't seem to reach the end of the pool! I am always running out of breath! I was waiting in dread for our swimming prof to call us one by one and do the practical exam. As I hugged my knees to futilely keep myself warm, I see Shard who was flirting with some of our girl classmates and showing his skills off. I decided to get even with him for pissing me off so much; so, using my psychokinesis (for those who might ask, I am still wearing my cuffs, I never take them off plus they are water-proof) I pulled his shorts down slightly just in time as he dove into the pool. The girls were giggling when they saw his ass-crack, as well as some of the other boys. I let out a hearty laugh when Shard got up and the weight of the water pulled his swimming trunks down, just barely showing his you-know-what.

Call me mean, but the latter set of events were clearly beyond from my hands.


I know how to have fun too..


Okay, maybe it was a little mean. I was about to comfort him when our prof suddenly called me. What the hell? why am I first?? I can't fail! I can't fail! I'll lose my scholarship!

As I dipped into the water, I was shaking; not only due to the cold water, but because I was beyond nervous. I don't know if I would make it. I heard the whistle and off I went; left, right, left, right, I have no idea how far I am but I was too afraid to fail and kept on going until my hand felt the other end. 

I.. I made it? HELL YEAHHHH!!!!!

Now that that's done I could go home and-

oh right.... it's monday.. I should be in Shadow's house.

Actually, no; I don't have to be in his house, but then again, I'll feel bad for not helping him. Curse me and my bleeding heart.

Again I find myself within the area of the dark hedgehog's house. I nonchalantly made my way in and ignored a Swiss knife passed by my face, slightly grazing against my skin

"Is that all, Shadow?" I said dryly. I think I am beginning to get used to his "friendly greetings" A look at Shadow's face and I saw that he was dead serious, as if he really wanted to kill me

"I was just being sure"
    "Being sure of what?"

He turned his wheelchair around then replied

"Surely my injury must have reach the ears of The Doctor and might take advantage of my current state." That's what he said

"Nah.. I'm pretty sure you just want me dead."
    "perhaps... but what would I gain by killing you?"

Damn. That was a good point.

"Anyway, let me check you leg again." at least he complied. I removed his cast, and inspected his broken leg; the stitch was healing nicely, and the swelling was going down. That's good.

"Well, it's healing quicker than I thought"
    "That's thanks to the nanobots in my bloodstream; they help with the healing process"
    "cool"

I didn't say anything else; I kinda had water still stuck in my ears. Don't you hate it when that happens? No matter how much I tried they were still there. Just then we both heard someone entering and Shadow and I simultaneously turned out heads towards the door. Guess who it was?

"Hey boys! Thought I'd drop by!" It waaaaaaaaaas... If you guys said Rouge, well... nothing. But if you said Sonic then you people are psychic like me.

"Hey Sonic" I said
    "Hi Silvs! Hey Faker how's the leg?" Sonic joked

"Hmph.. Still no good thanks to you." Shadow replied. "I bet you enjoy seeing me not being able to run, you mock me from behind.. I could feel it" Damn, you could really feel the bitterness in Shadow's voice. I felt bad for him before but wow..

"woah woah woah, easy there Shadow; none of what you just is true, I would never want any of my friends hurt." Sonic answered back. Shadow is really mad..

"Oh wait! I suddenly remembered something!" I grab my bag and got a sheet of paper and gave my pencil to Shadow and simply stated "Draw a pig"

"Why?"
    "just do it"
    "no"
    "why not?"
    "because"
    "OH come on! just draw a damn pig!"
    "You won't give me a valid reason, so I won't do it"

I had to think of a way to convince him; ooooh, I know

"I bet you I can tell you your personality by your drawing" I told him in a smug voice. If you want Shadow to agree on anything, you have to challenge him into it. And I can already see it working

"Is that so? ha! a portrait of a swine won't even get you through the tip of the iceberg. I am complicated" he said oh so smugly. I was feeling really confident about this

"Wanna bet? If I can read your entire personality through that drawing, then you will do everything I say and won't be a difficult patient from now on."
    "And if I win?"
    "then I won't comeback, and I will leave you alone and let you do what you want with that leg of yours. Do we have a deal?" there was an uncertainty in his eyes after saying the last sentence, but then again I could've just be imagining it since he returned with his own cocky aura.

"Deal"

I handed the dark hedgehog the paper and pencil. "then draw a damn pig"

Sonic laughed "That sounds like a lot of fun! Can I try too Silver?"
    "sure!" I gave sonic his own paper and pen

I looked at the drawings both Shadow and Sonic made. After observing, I looked at the black and red hedgehog.

"okay Shadow, based on your drawing, You drew your pig in the middle of the paper, meaning that you are a realist, and it is facing to the left, which means that you are traditional." I saw him keep quiet, then continued "I can see that you put a lot of detail on the drawing, Do you know what that means?"

"That I am a great artist?"
    "It means that you are very cautious and do not trust others easily, you prefer keeping things to yourself, even the things that can hurt you. You are also very analytical" I stopped and read Shadow's reactions. I was feeling shaky myself. "and, you drew the pig with less than 4 legs. You are insecure, and is going through a major change in you life"

I was feeling pity for the guy. Actually, I almost feel like crying. You'll find out later why. Even Sonic, who knew Shadow longer than me, was astonished to learn about these things about Shadow. "The ears are quite big, meaning you are actually a good listener. And the short tail, I'd rather not say." Things were quiet right now.

"D-did I get it right? Judging from your reactions though I think I hit homerun"

Shadow whispered something

"what?" I asked
    "I said you're right. You win"
    "I told you I'd get it right" 

Sonic decided to jump in the conversation "DUDE!! Me next! Let's see mine"

"Alrighty then" I said as I read his drawing " Towards the top of the paper, you are positive and optimistic, facing front, you have the tendency to be direct and you are also prone to neither fearing nor avoiding confrontations."

"woaaaaah.."

"Also, you put less details than Shadow, you tend to be emotional and focus on the larger picture than the details. You also have the tendancy to be a great risk taker and may sometimes be prone to reckless and impulsive decisions"

"Impulsive is putting it lightly" Shadow whispered under his breath. I paid no mind to him

"You drew 4 legs on it, meaning you are secure and stick to your ideals, but then people might describe you as stubborn."

"Hey! I'm not stubb-"
    "Shush; now as I was saying... The ears are kinda big; you are a good listener. And the long, curly tail, i'd rather not say"

"aww, why not? c'mon!"
    "it's kinda...embarrassing"
    "Come ooooooon! Just say it!" Sonic insisted; oh well, he wanted this

"The tail symbolizes sex life. The longer the tail, the more active the sex life" them immediately Sonic looked over at Shadow's drawing and began laughing

"That means you have no sex life Shads! HAHAHA!!!" he teased; I saw Shadow looking away from embarrassment, and I suddenly had the urge to help the poor bastard

"Hey, don't be mean to my patient; that's why I didn't want to say it in the first place. What about you? How many women do you knock up? Do you do Amy too?" I said bluntly. It was the blue hedgehog's turn to shut up and light up red with embarrassment

"WHAT?? NO!!! I don't knock anyone up!!" He said so defensively
     "Then why the long tail then, hmmm?"
     "I swear I'm not!"

I simply shrugged my shoulders "if that's what you say"

"I swear I'm- why don't you believe me??"
     "Oh I believe you Sonic, what's amusing is how defensive you are"

Sonic didn't say anything else, and I noticed that Shadow was doing his best to hold down his laugh (you know, because he'll say something like 'I'm the badass one around here, and badass people don't laugh' or something stupid about reputations)

"I should go, Tails might be wondering where I am" Then Sonic stood up and excused himself, leaving Shadow and I alone.

We didn't say anything for a good amount of time, until he spoke first (which is hella weird, since I always attempt to start conversing with him)

"Thank you... for... y'know"
 "Don't thank me; you're my patient, and as my patient your wellbeing is my priority. I couldn't just let him pick on you like that, it's just how I am"

He simply nodded. "Is the results... how did you-"

remember when I said that I almost felt like crying? well, here's the reason

"It's because, I got the same result as you. Exactly the same. I feel so lost without Blaze, she always knew what to do"
 "It's difficult to lose someone precious to us"

I didn't say anything else though. Shadow lost somebody as well?

"Well, I suggest you drink you medicine now. Remember the bet; no more being difficult alright?" I reminded him. As a reply he simply let out a huff of breath.

As I headed home, I couldn't help but ponder at the new revelation I had

who knew Shadow and I have so much in common?
